• What – Hike on a highest monolithic hill in Asia, near Magadi, Bangalore about 70Km. (As per few references it is highest monolithic hill in Asia – Ref . There are also similar references for Madhu Giri, 150-170 Km away from Bangalore. Rather than getting into geological facts and claims I am calling it one of the highest hill in Asia..Will update text if I find any official confirmation of the fact :))

  • Travel –
    • About 60-70 Km car ride from Bangalore – There are two roads —
      • Nice Road ->Mysore road -Take right after Rajrajeshwari medical college -> Dodda (Big) Baniyan Tree -> Savandurga : This is my favorite road, goes through very good patch of forest.
      • Bangalore – Magadi Road – Take left just before Town -Savandurga. Very few turns and twists, Straight road from Bangalore. You wont feel lost, but one can get traffic on this road specially while returning.
  • Highlights –
    • This is one of the frequently visited place in Bangalore for whoeve loves hiking
    • Very good road through forest, ample of parking at the base, being a popular destination one always have company,
    • Based on once capacity one can decide how far one wants to go, there are at least 4 good view points where one can rest. I have been here in every season, and with every combination, with kids, with family members, with friends etc. If one decides the target based on who is accompanying this place can be a great joy to everyone.
    • View from the top is amazing due to nearby forest and dam.
  • Lowlights
    • Warning – Always follow the marked trail. One may think that it is easy to take alternate route, however its easy to climb but not always easy to join back/return. Just google, there are have been numerous incidents of fatal injuries on this trail primarily because people dont take trail seriously. Read few articles here..Bangalore mirror 2015 , TOI 2018
    • Avoid Savandurga if it is raining heavily. Stone trail can become very slippery
  • General Location hints
  • Suitable Time Period
    • Any day morning try to reach before 7.30 AM, earlier the better.
      • Avoid hiking heavy rains due to slippery surface.
      • If its summer remember to carry cap/hat, there is no tree cover at all as it is a stone trail
    • Many people come here during evenings too, usually very pleasant to come here as picnic spot.
